Yesterday I was walking down the outside staircase of the hospital. The landings are well used, nurses and doctors and patients with IVs taking cigarette breaks; Bedouin families camped out to be close to their hospitalized relatives; students walking up to try to get some exercise.
As I was walking down I saw a Bedouin women opening and handing a banana to an older woman, 2 men were sitting near them. As I walked down they called out: "she's sick, she can't fast!!" "All-righty then", I replied. "But she's sick!", they all said. 'Ok' I said, "You don't want to fast if you're not well.' They laughed amongst themselves as I walked down the stairs saying 'Ramadan Mubarak'.
